Areas we cover in Sheffield
We cover the whole of Sheffield and the towns around it, including Crookes, Walkley, Hillsborough, Broomhill, Fulwood, Ecclesall, Nether Edge, Handsworth and Stocksbridge, plus Rotherham, Dronfield and Penistone. Each area page explains the houses, water and common problems in that part of the city.
S60, S61, S65, S66
Rotherham
Rotherham has much harder water than most of Sheffield, so many plumbing faults here start with limescale: stiff taps, noisy combi boilers and failed immersion heaters.
S18
Dronfield
Dronfield sits just over the Derbyshire border from Sheffield, so some rules change.
S6
Hillsborough
Hillsborough's Victorian terraces off Middlewood Road and around Hillsborough Park often have cellars, shared drains and old supply pipes, so a lot of plumbing jobs here start below the ground floor.
S36
Penistone
Penistone is a high, exposed Pennine town, so winter is when plumbing problems peak: frozen pipes, frozen boiler condensate pipes and long cold supply pipes.
S10
Crookes
Crookes sits on a high ridge in west Sheffield, with rows of Victorian terraces, many with cellars and many let to students.
S6
Walkley
Walkley's Victorian terraces were built plot by plot by freehold land societies from the 1840s, so no two rows are quite the same underneath.
S10
Broomhill
Broomhill is full of big Victorian villas, many split into flats or let to students near the University of Sheffield.
S10
Fulwood
Fulwood is one of Sheffield's higher, leafier suburbs, with larger detached and semi detached homes on the edge of the Peak District.
S11
Ecclesall
Ecclesall's homes range from Victorian terraces near Ecclesall Road to Edwardian semis around Banner Cross and interwar homes out towards Greystones and Bents Green.
S7
Nether Edge
Nether Edge is one of Sheffield's biggest conservation areas, full of large Victorian villas and terraces with cellars, tall rooms and old heating systems.
S13
Handsworth
Handsworth has harder water than most of Sheffield, so limescale causes a lot of the plumbing faults here: noisy combi boilers, stiff taps, clogged shower heads and failed immersion heaters.
S36
Stocksbridge
Stocksbridge and Deepcar are among the first places in Sheffield to get snow, so winter brings frozen pipes, frozen boiler condensate pipes and bursts when the thaw comes.
